thought

When you wake up, what first comes to mind? Is it that sense of vitality, passion, and spaciousness? Or does thought come in and immediately rupture the silence with past and future content? Of course, we must organize our day in such a way that we fulfill needs for daily life, but how much thought is needed beyond that? We have allowed the intellect to bring our attention away from the beauty of what is to what should be, which is illusory. Thought is useful for rational advancements, technology, language, and most of our occupations, but many of us struggle to maintain deep attentiveness to the present as a result of its overuse. Many times when we become aware of our overthinking we try to end thought with thought, which usually yields poor results. Can you instead, understand the nature of your own mind? Taking time to write down your thoughts, reactions, ingrained beliefs and ideas, not to achieve a result- which would also be a product of thought- but for its own sake. Is the truth about yourself, life, something separate from you? Or is it a living thing, beyond our own limited concepts?
